Al Sadu Society
Our Patron and Honorary President, Shaikha Altaf Al Sabah, was the initiator of protecting and documenting the traditional art of Bedouin weaving. The project was started in 1978 as a private initiative and was transformed into Al Sadu Weaving Cooperative Society in 1991, owned by the weavers and artisans.
The Cooperative found its home in the beautiful setting of what is known today as Sadu House, an old traditional house on Gulf Road in Kuwait City.
Mission
Al Sadu Society was founded with the mission is to preserve, document, and promote the rich and diverse textile heritage of the Kuwaiti Bedouin, from the nomadic weaving of the desert, through to the urban weaving of the town. We celebrate the values of productivity and creativity of the nation’s past
generation, weaving together a cultural identity for both present and future generations.
